FUFA referee dies hours after League game!

A FUFA Grade III Referee died in a motor accident Tuesday night just hours after he had officiated a match involving two Kitara Regional League clubs.

Ojwiya Patrick, a resident of Kiryandongo was reportedly riding a motorcycle when he met his death. According to the area delegate George Kabwimukya, the deceased collided with another motor cyclist around 8:00pm and died on spot.

Earlier in the day, Ojwiya had officiated a tense Regional League game in Masindi between Red Eagles and Hoima Young Stars. The visitors walloped the hosts 3-0. But despite the loss by the home team, there was no commotion and the fans hailed the referee for a professional performance.

“Little did we know that this good referee had only come to bid farewell to us” said Kabwimukya. Ojwiya will be laid to rest this Thursday at his ancestral ground in Amuru district.

FUFA wishes to convey our most heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and the entire football fraternity in western and the northern regions for this untimely death of our committed referee. There is no doubt, Ojwiya died on duty and we shall always miss his srrvices. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
