FUFA Super 8 2025: URA and Villa Edge Kitara and KCCA Respectively in Opening Day Matches

The 2025 FUFA Super 8 tournament kicked off today at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo with two high-intensity games marking the start of pre-season preparations for the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season, set to commence in mid-September.

URA FC 2-1 Kitara FC
In the tournament opener, URA FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kitara FC in a match filled with chances and late drama. Under the guidance of coach Alex Isabirye Musongola, URA took the lead in the 33rd minute through a composed finish by Joseph Semujju.

Kitara, despite dominating large percentage of the game and getting several opportunities, managed to equalize in the 67th minute through Isaac Doka Mweru to bring the Hoima-based side level with a clinical finish.

As the match edged into went into stoppage time, it was URA who had the final say. Nichas Kabonge drew the last blood in the 90+4th minute. The goal gave URA an advantage heading into the second leg.

SC Villa 2-1 KCCA FC
The evening fixture saw SC Villa take on rivals KCCA FC under the floodlights in what remains one of the biggest rivalries in the country.

The first goal came in the 35th minute when Hassan Mubiru capitalised on a defensive error to put Villa ahead with a sharp finish. Despite KCCA’s efforts to make a comeback in the second half, Villa made it worse for them as they scored the second goal in the 83rd minute through Andrew Otim. KCCA FC pulled one back through player Sammy Sebadduka though it was too late for them to snatch a win from SC Villa.

The tournament action continues tomorrow at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo with two more exciting fixtures:

Winners BUL FC begin their title defence against Maroons FC at 4:00PM. BUL famously defeated Vipers SC 5-4 on penalties in the last edition’s final and will be looking to start strong.

In the second game of the day, NEC FC takes on Express FC at 7:00PM. NEC will use the tournament as preparation ahead of their debut campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, where they represent Uganda on the continental stage.
