Vipers SC 1-0 Maroons FC

Bul FC secured their place in the 2023 FUFA Super 8 cup final by defeating SC Villa 6-5 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regular time on Monday at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa emerged as the day’s hero for the Eastern giants, saving two penalties during the post-match shootout.

In the course of normal time, The Jogoos took the lead courtesy of Peter Onzima, who calmly finished off a delightful assist from Ivan Bogere in the 26th minute.

Shortly before halftime, the home team restored parity through a Samuel Sekamatte penalty after Reagan Kalyowa was fouled in the box by teenage defender Simon Mukisa. Referee Ashadu Ssemeere had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Both teams sought a decisive goal in the second half, but it ultimately came down to penalty kicks to determine who would advance to the final.

Ronald Ssekiganda and Kenneth Semakula had their penalties saved by Joel Mutakubwa, while Douglas Muganga’s kick for Bul went wide. Sekamatte, Benon Tahomera, Ronald Otti, Mutakubwa, Lawrence Tezikya, and Ibrahim Mugulusi converted for the hosts, securing a 6-5 victory.

For Villa, Umar Lutalo, Edward Masembe, Hamza Mulambuzi, Patrick Jonah Kakande, and Hakim Mutebi successfully converted their penalties.

In the final, BUL FC will face the victor between KCCA and URA FC, who will face off this Sunday in the second semi-final at the MTN Omondi Stadium. SC Villa will contend with the losing team from that same encounter.

Over at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, Brazilian forward Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez unleashed a powerful free-kick from approximately 23 yards, finding the top right corner of the net just before halftime, ensuring Vipers SC’s 1-0 victory against Maroons FC in the first classification match.

In the other classification match on Sunday, Soltilo Bright Stars FC and Wakiso Giants FC will clash head-to-head.
