FUFA SUPPORTS ‘PROTECT THE GOAL’ CAMPAIGN

FUFA and two ministries of-Health, Education and Sports have organized a friendly game between the Uganda and Ethiopia due on 9th November at Namboole stadium.

The friendly game is organized as a main event to launch a campaign code named ‘Protect The Goal’ aimed at tackling the HIV/AIDS scourge in Uganda.

Entrance to the stadium will be free.

‘I commend FUFA for accepting to partner with us on this noble cause and believe that using football will go a long way in helping us achieve our goal of reversing the currently increasing trend to zero new infections by the year 2020’ said Hon. Sarah Opendi, the state minister for health at the Uganda Media centre on Monday.

FUFA CEO Edgar Watson who represented FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo first conveyed his greetings to the ministry of health officials before he went ahead to assure them of FUFA’s full support of the campaign.

‘FUFA is honored to partner with the Ministry of Health in this campaign of sensitizing Ugandans on the dangers of HIV/AIDS in Uganda.

The ‘Protect The Goal’ campaign is spot on and I am here to assure you of our commitment’ said Watson.

The former Cranes international further expressed his happiness that the campaign will also be promoted during the Uganda Premier League games and other lower leagues.

‘The health of players, coaches, referees, fans and all other stake holders of the game is paramount that is why we are throwing all our weight behind this campaign’ added Watson.

Watson also stressed that Uganda Cranes will use the match as build up to the forthcoming 2015 Nations cup qualifiers against Ghana and Guinea mid next month.

The FUFA CEO also used the opportunity to thank the president of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is going to be the Chief Guest for his support towards the Uganda Cranes in the current AFCON campaign.
