The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has successfully wound up the the famous ‘Project Cameroon 2019’ and ushered another for the FIFA World Cup 2026 during the well tended press conference at FUFA House in Mengo on Wednesday, 10th July 2019.
This press conference was graced by the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, flanked by the second Vice President Darius Mugoye as well as three FUFA Executive Committee members Ronnie Kalema, Rogers Byamukama and Hamid Juma.
Originally set five years ago in 2014, the AFCON 2019 project placed the bar upon which the federation targeted and geared all its energies towards the accomplishment of Project Cameroon 2019.
Fine, FUFA qualified the Uganda Cranes for the AFCON finals hosted by Gabon in 2017, the prime target remained qualification for AFCON 2019 which was eventually achieved.
Now FUFA has set it eyes on the FIFA World Cup 2026 that will jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico and USA.
‘Today marks the end of the Project Cameroon project that we launched on 24th November 2014. It has been a realistic project with many positives and definitely crucial learning experiences. We are also launching the FIFA World Cup 2026 Project. We shall remain competing in the qualifiers for all the Junior and senior team competitions in between as we prepare the team for the set goal. To be more specific, the were are looking at CHAN 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2026, AFCON 2021, 2023 and 2025’
Eng. Magogo in a special way appreciated the different stakeholders who have worked as a unit to help achieve the set targets collectively.
In particular, he lauded the President of the Republic of Uganda HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, First Lady Mama Janet Museveni, the Government of Uganda for the financial and moral support, FUFA Executive, FUFA Delegates, Clubs, Sponsors and partners, FUFA administration, Media and the gallant fans.
He pointed at the grey areas as indicators for signs of development especially referring to the two campaigns played at AFCON 2017 and 2019.
Like in 2014, FUFA will also hold a Symposium meant to brain storm ideas on how to reach the set targets, identify challenges and opportunities as well seek a way forward to the barrages that lie underneath to a successful football development.

Meanwhile, the FUFA Emergency Executive Committee confirmed that all the technical positions for the the senior and Junior teams (U-23, U-20 , U-17, U-15) are now vacant and eligible candidates can apply for the jobs. The positions that have become vacant are: Head coach, Assistant coach, Goalkeeping coach, Medical Personnel, Video Analyst, Phyisical Fitness trainer and Kitsmen.

Relatedly, the interim team of Abdallah Mubiru (Head coach), Livingstone Mbabazi (Assistant Coach), Sadiq Wassa (Goalkeeping coach) and Geofrey Massa (Team coordinator) will handle the Uganda Cranes on interim basis for the CHAN 2020 qualifiers. Ugandawas drawn to play Somalia starting 26th July away with the return leg taking place a week later in Kampala.
