FUFA Women Elite League: Kawempe Muslim wins third straight title unbeaten

2016/17 FUFA Women Elite League:

  • Final: UCU Lady Cardinals 0-4 Kawempe Muslim Women Club
  • Third Place play off: Uganda Martyrs High School, Lubaga 1 (3) -1 (2) Olila High School

For the third time in a row, Kawempe Muslim Women Football Club has been declared champion of the FUFA Women Elite League. They completed the entire season unbeaten, winning all 12 games in the regular season played over two rounds before registering victories in the Semifinal play offs and finals. In total, they won all the 14 games played in the league this season.

The latest achievement was achieved on Sunday at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium after a one sided 4-0 victory over UCU Lady Cardinals.

Juliet Nalukenge scored a brace in the 33rd and 57th minutes before Sharon Naddunga’s 78th minute goal and a late strike from second half substitute Favour Nambatya crowned the red letter day for the champions.

During the earlier third place play off match, Uganda Martyrs’ High School Lubaga recovered from a goal down to defeat Soroti based Olila High School 3-2 in post-match penalties after normal time had ended one goal apiece.

FUFA women Executive member Agnes Mugena, executive committee member Chris Kalibala, FUFA Technical director Asuman Lubowa, women football officer Hadijah Namuyanja and Efrance Najjengo (chairperson of Uganda Women Football Association) graced the official medal, prizes and trophy presentation ceremony afterwards.

This was the third time that the FUFA Women Elite league was being held since 2015.

Most Valuable Player (MVP): Fazila Ikwaput (Olila High School)

Fair Play award: Rines Women Football Club

Best Referee: Aisa Ssemambo

Best Goalkeeper: Ruth Aturo (Kawempe Muslim)

Top Scorer: Hasifa Nassuuna (Kawempe Muslim) – 26 goals (24 in regular season)

Best Journalist (Print): Stephen Mayamba (Bukedde)

Best Journalist (Social media): Majojo Hambali

Best Journalist (On-line): Joel Muyita (Chimp Reports)
