FUFA Women Super League: Kampala Queens clinch title, Makerere, Gafford win to boost survival hopes

Kampala Queens are officially the Champions of the 2022/23 FUFA Women Super League. The Queens of Soccer sealed the title on Sunday after defeating UCU Lady Cardinals in Kabojja.

Going into Sunday’s game, Kampala Queens needed just a point to emerge Champions but they went a notch higher to claim a 2-0 win.

An own goal by defender Bridget Nabisaalu and a late strike from Shamirah Nalugya guided the team to victory.

The win meant Kampala Queens moved to 40 points from 14 games hence winning the title with four games to spare.

Kawempe Muslim moved to second place after an emphatic victory over Rines WFC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.

Shakirah Nyinagahirwa bagged a brace to take her goal tally to nine this season and now top on the scorers’ chart.

The other goals for the Valley Warriors came from Hadijah Nandago, Allen Nassazi and Aisha Nantongo.

The consolation for the home side who now drop to the relegation zone came from Eva Naggayi.

Asubo Gafford Ladies boosted their chances of beating relegation by edging past Lady Doves in a five-goal thriller.

Fatuma Nakasumba and Kamiyati Naigaga scored a goal each before an own goal by Lady Doves defender Florence Nalumansi.

Diana Nantongo and Joweria Nagadya scored for the Masindi based outfit in a losing effort.

Elsewhere, Makerere University came from a goal down to overcome Uganda Martyrs.

The Kiddawalime girls had taken the lead through skipper Catherine Nagadya but Makerere showed character with Sharon Namatovu and Aisha Namagembe scoring.

She Corporate eventually returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Olila High School thanks to Noeline Namiiro’s lone goal.
