FUFA Women Super League: Kampala Queens start title defence with victory as Kawempe, Makerere and Maroons win on the road

Kampala Queens FC made a perfect defence to their league crown after edging past Uganda Martyrs Ladies FC on Sunday at MTN-Omondi Stadium on Sunday.

The closely contested game saw Uganda Martyrs take the lead through new captain Latifah Nakasi.

The hosts were however able to stage a comeback thanks to goals from Shamirah Nalugya (penalty) and the winner from Catherine Nagadya who recently joined Kampala Queens from Uganda Martyrs.

She Maroons were the biggest winners on matchday one, putting up a five star performance away to Asubo Ladies at Kampala Quality Playground.

Lillian Kasuubo orchestrated the damage, bagging a hat trick on the day before Millicent Namwembe added a brace to complete the rout.

Elsewhere, Kawempe Muslim edged Rines SS WFC in a five-goal thriller at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

Phiona Nabulime, Hadijah Babirye and Agnes Nabukenya scored a goal each for Kawempe Muslim.

Rines SS WFC on the other hand got their goals through Catherine Wujja and Shakira Nankwanga’s own goal.

In the other game played over the weekend, Makerere University WFC edged new comers Wakiso Hill SS WFC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende thanks to a goal from new signing Noeline Namiiro.

The opening game of the season between UCU Lady Cardinals FC and Lady Doves played on Saturday ended in a goalless draw.
