FUFA Women Super League: Kampala Queens win seven-goal thriller against Kawempe to narrow gap on leaders She Corporate

The FUFA Women Super League returned after a two-week break with matchday 12 action spread across the country.

As the League hits the final bend, teams are intensifying their fight to fulfill targets set at the start of the season.

The race for the title took yet another twist after results from the weekend fixtures with She Corporate FC, UCU Lady Cardinals and Uganda Martyrs WFC losing ground while Kampala Queens came out as the biggest winners.

Kampala Queens registered an emphatic win over Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC to move within breathing space of leaders She Corporate FC.

In a thrilling encounter played in Kawempe, Kampala Queens nicked a 4-3 win to avenge for the 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture.

Shamirah Nalugya and Margaret Kunihira came to haunt their former employers, both appearing on the score sheet.

Nalugya netted a brace while Kunihira scored once before skipper Zaina Namuleme added the other. Kawempe’s goals came from Shakira Nyinagahirwa (brace) and Aisha Nantongo.

The result moved Kampala Queens to second place and are now just a point behind She Corporate FC who settled for a draw against Uganda Martyrs WFC.

She Corporate FC conceded a late penalty in the two all draw against Uganda Martyrs WFC thus losing ground in the title race.

Kevin Nakacwa gave Uganda Martyrs WFC the lead but the visitors made a response through Susan Atim and Phiona Nabbumba. However, the hosts got a penalty in stoppage time and Catherine Nagadya was able to convert.

She Corporate remain top of the log on 26 points, one ahead of Kampala Queens while Uganda Martyrs WFC are third on 23.

Elsewhere, Olila High School stunned UCU Lady Cardinals in Mukono, winning 1-0 courtesy of Grace Aluka.

Aluka leads the scoring charts this season with eight goals and Olila now occupies 5th position with 18 points, same as UCU Lady Cardinals who are a place above because of goal difference.

She Maroons gave their relegation fight a big boost by earning a 1-0 win against Lady Doves in Luzira.

Jackline Nassali scored the lone goal of the game helping her side to register their second win of the season.

Despite winning, She Maroons FC remained second from bottom on 9 points but only two behind 8th placed Lady Doves.

Rines SS WFC who are rock bottom of the table lost to FC Tooro Queens on Sunday at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal City.

The solitary goal of the game came from Evelyn Katusiime to help Tooro Queens register their second win of the season and the first at home.

Matchday 13 starts on Monday with She Maroons FC hosting Olila High School in Luzira while the other fixtures will come on Monday.

She Corporate will hope to return to winning ways as they make a long trip to Masindi to face Lady Doves FC. The Sharks have only picked draws from the two games played in the second round.

Kampala Queens visit Uganda Martyrs WFC with the target of keeping within touching distance of leaders She Corporate.

Wounded UCU Lady Cardinals FC will seek to bounce back against FC Tooro Queens at home while Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC will go into the clash against Rines SS WFC seeking for revenge since the latter won the reverse fixture.
