Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga ended the first round of the 2019/20 FUFA Women Super League on a bright note, posting victories in their respective outings on Sunday.


League leaders Kawempe ensured they maintained their grip of the table with a convincing 4-1 win against Lady Doves while Uganda Martyrs fought hard to claim a 1-0 win away to She Corporate in Luzira.


Sharon Naddunga, Shamira Nalugya, Margaret Kunihira and Anita Namata scored a goal each for Kawempe Muslim while Kenyan midfielder Mary Nafula got the consolation for Lady Doves.


A Brilliant start saw the Warriors take an early lead through Naddunga who headed home Asia Nakibuuka’s corner kick delivery in the 5th minute.


Lady Doves however found the equaliser three minutes later when Nafula’s effort beat goalkeeper Juliet Adeke in goal for Kawempe.


Midway through the first half, midfielder Nalugya curled home a well taken free kick to help Kawempe Muslim regain their lead.


Kunihira converted from the spot while Namata added the fourth to seal victory for Kawempe.


The win took the Ayub Khalifan coached side to 19 points.


On the other hand, Uganda Martyrs, the surprise package this season continued with their fine form with a 1-0 win over She Corporate thanks to a solitary strike from Spencer Nakachwa.


Latifa Nakasi set up Nakachwa who beat She Corporate defence for pace before slotting the ball into the back of the net.


Uganda Martyrs remain second on the log with 16 points in 7 games.

Action continues on Monday with Kampala Queens hosting Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals.
