FUFA Women Super League: Rines, Kawempe show character to post hard-fought victories

Rines SS and Kawempe Muslim showed grit in their respective wins over the weekend, needing to dig deep to claim maximum points.

Kawempe Muslim had to come from a goal down to defeat Asubo Gafford Ladies at the Valley Ground on Saturday.

Kamiyati Naigaga had given Gafford the lead at halftime but a spirited performance saw the hosts score twice through Shakirah Nyinagahirwa.

The crafty midfielder bagged a brace to take her tally to eleven goals this season and she leads the scoring chart.

Kawempe moved to 26 points in second place while Asubo Gafford Ladies are seventh on the log on 16 points, just one above the drop zone.

At Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Rines registered a crucial win against Makerere University to brighten their hopes of survival.

The thrilling encounter ended in a 3-2 win for the hosts thanks to goals from Amina Nababi, Jesca Namanda and Eva Naggayi.

Makerere got their goals through Husinah Mpanja and Shakira Nalule (own goal).

The win lifted Rines out of the drop zone moving up to fifth place on 18 points. Makerere University on the other hand are now second from bottom on 15 points.

Kampala Queens secured a 3-1 win in Soroti over Olila High School.

The Champions in waiting got the goals from Zaina Namuleme, Zaina Nandede and Resty Nanziri.

Elsewhere, Uganda Martyrs were 2-0 winners over UCU Lady Cardinals in Mukono thanks to goals from Auki Kigongo and Sumaya Nalumu.

The relegation six-pointer between She Corporate and Lady Doves in Masindi ended in a barren stalemate.
