Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje was named the Finance Trust Bank Woman of the Match after her heroic display helped the Warriors secure a 2-1 victory against rivals St Noa Girls Zana FC at Kawempe Muslim SS Ground on Sunday.
Jovia Nakagolo and Latifah Nakasi were on target for the Warriors while Giovana Sunday Aketowanga scored for the visitors.
The Warriors’ shot-stopper delivered a commanding performance between the posts, producing a series of crucial saves to deny St Noa and ensure Kawempe claimed maximum points.
After earning her starting spot this season, Namwanje is repaying her coaches’ trust with consistent and confident performances that have seen her improve in every match. She made several key interventions to stop efforts from St Noa’s attacking duo Dorcas Lwalisa and Patricia Nayiga.
Her calm decision-making helped her side remain organised under sustained pressure, especially in the final 20 minutes after Giovana Aketowanga had pulled one back for St Noa.
Speaking after the game, the young goalkeeper expressed her delight at winning her first individual accolade.
‘I am so happy to win my first Woman of the Match award. I feel grateful to my teammates and I am going to keep working hard to help my team keep clean sheets,’ said a smiling Namwanje.
The Warriors’ assistant coach Moses Nkata praised his goalkeeper’s effort and attitude, noting that she still has more potential to realise.
‘Saidat has really done her role well today. She has worked hard to get to this level and I believe she can perform even better. We believe in all our goalkeepers because they are all important and the best one always goes in goal,’ said Nkata.
This award caps a remarkable start to the campaign for the young goalkeeper who hopes to establish herself as one of the brightest goalkeeping prospects in the league.
Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC currently sit third on the table with seven points, level with Kampala Queens FC and She Corporate FC, although the latter two have a superior goal difference. Kawempe will travel to face Uganda Martyrs High School WFC on Sunday in Matchday Four action.
