The government of Uganda has pledged to support Cecafa and FUFA in organizing a successful Cecafa-Tusker Cup to be hosted in Kampala between November 24 and December 8.
The revelations were made by the state minister for education and sports in charge of Sports Hon. Charles Bakabulindi during a courtesy visit paid to him by the Cecafa General Secretary Nicholas Musonye in his offices located on the parliamentary avenue in Kampala on Tuesday afternoon.
Bakabulindi said the tournament would be used to be part of the celebrations to mark Uganda’s 50 years of political independence. On the issue of the stadium, the minister said his office would intervene to ensure that the facility is availed to FUFA at a manageable cost.
He commended the East African Breweries Limited (EABL) for the USD 450.000 (UGX 1.125.000.000) sponsorship package towards this year’s tournament.
Musonye hailed the minister for his tireless support towards football that has seen Uganda winning the Cecafa Challenge title twelve times. Uganda are the defending champions after edging Rwanda 3-2 on sport kicks. The normal time ended 2-2.
The twelve member countries of Cecafa are Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Zanzibar, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
