Grounds Personnel Training Course for FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women Elite League Teams kicks off

FUFA on Monday launched a three-day training course for grounds personnel from FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women Elite League teams. The course held at MultiTech Business School in Kampala aims to elevate the standards of pitch maintenance and management.

This training course, fully facilitated by FUFA in collaboration with FIFA’s “League Development Programme,” brings together some of the top instructors in the field. FUFA instructors Jamil Ssewanyana, Ali Mwebe and Deo Mutabazi are leading the participants through a comprehensive curriculum designed to address the challenges of poor grass pitches, which are often the cause of player injuries and detract from the quality of the game, particularly during live televised matches.

The course is structured to provide both practical and theoretical knowledge. Participants will engage in hands-on sessions that teach the latest techniques in pitch maintenance, ensuring they can apply these skills directly to their respective grounds. Theoretical sessions covers essential topics such as pitch design, grass care, and the role of grounds personnel in maintaining a high-quality playing surface.

Day One Highlights

On the first day, participants were introduced to FUFA and its Programmes by Deo Mutabazi, and the fundamentals of pitch maintenance by Jamil Ssewanyana who provided an overview of the key elements involved in managing a football pitch, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance.

The remaining days of the course promise to build on this foundation, with further in-depth sessions on advanced pitch management techniques, problem-solving for common pitch issues, and strategies for maintaining pitches under varying weather conditions, ensuring that all participants are proficient in the skills learned.

FUFA’s collaboration with FIFA on this initiative underscores their commitment to improving the standard of football in Uganda. By equipping grounds personnel with the necessary skills and knowledge, FUFA aims to enhance the quality of pitches across the FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women Elite League, ultimately fostering a safer and more enjoyable football experience for players and fans alike.
