HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 90TH FUFA ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HIGHLIGHTS OF 90TH FUFA ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY HELD AT ST.LIRA HOTEL ON SATURDAY, 25TH OCTOBER 2014:

The 2014 FUFA Ordinary General Assembly was held at St.Lira Hotel on Saturday, 25th October 2014.

It was the first time Northern Uganda was hosting the Assembly that was making its 90th anniversary.

56 of the expected 86 delegates attended, meeting the three thirds quorum expected for the assembly to kick off.

FUFA President, Eng Moses Magogo presided over the Assembly as stipulated in the FUFA statues.
National Council of Sports Assistant General secretary, Semakula Katende was chief guest.

By 9:30 a.m, the delegates at the venue (St Lira Hotel conference hall) had arrived before FUFA C.E.O, Edgar Watson called the assembly to order.

Opening prayer was led by Buganda Region delegate Rogers Mulindwa. The Assembly lasted 5 hours (from 10:00 am to 3pm).

Highlights from the 90th FUFA Extra General Assembly:

1 – FUFA President’s Presentation of the Federation activity report:

In his presentation of the activity report, FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo acknowledged the role of all stake holders in the process of football development in the country.

He thanked the delegates, football fans, administrators, all the sponsors and the government of Uganda for the timely financial and other support offered.

He hinted on all the activities for the past 12 or so months that the Federation has undertaken and pledged the continued hard work towards accomplishing the set targets.

“Our AFCON 2015 qualification campaign is still active and we have lined up two friendly games for the national team before we play Ghana on the 15th November 2014”, he added in reference to the November 9th and 11th friendly games at Namboole against Ethiopia and Sudan respectively.

He acknowledged the role played by the Honorary FUFA President, Lawrence Mulindwa and cautioned all those self seeking individuals whose major targets among others is to cause friction among the two.

2 – FUFA admitted three new member associations:

The three associations that join the FUFA family are; Uganda Football Players Association (UFPA), Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA) and Uganda Tertiary Institutions Football Association (UTIFA).

The trio join 30 other FUFA Members but await FIFA approval and guidance on their admission. However, the Uganda Tertiary Institutions Football Association (UTIFA) remain an associate member.

Joseph Mwanje and Issa Magoola seconded the motion as the house passed the motion.

The Uganda Football Players’ Association chairman Patrick Ntege who had been previously suspended from FUFA assemblies attended and in a separate motion, the assembly lifted the ban.

Yusuf Kamulegeya moved motion of approving Uganda Youth Football Association with Bonifance Oreyma and Hannington Okello successfully seconding.

For the motion of approving Uganda Tertiary Institutions Football Association, Ayub Kalifa was the mover.

Western region delegate, Ceaser Nuwagaba and Bul F.C chairman, Silver Alias seconded the motion.

3 – Dennis Mbidde Approval as FUFA 3rd Vice President

This most awaited session was led by FUFA electoral Committee member, John Odyek.

North East regional football delegate Peter Okwir moved motion to approve Mbidde that was successfully seconded by Baza Holdings football club chairman Bashir ‘Mando’ Kamanzi and the Uganda Football Coaches’ Association delegate Paul Ssali.

Mbidde, by virtual of his role as chairman of the Uganda Premier League clubs automatically becomes the third FUFA Vice President replacing Mujib Kasule.

“I am privileged for the new appointment. I promise to work to the best of my ability. Sales and marketing is my blood and I will help the federation on this particular front. I am happy to come back to the football family’ said Mbidde.

4 – The passing of the FUFA annual budget:

It was presented by FUFA Finance committee chairman, Rasoul Aliga and FUFA Finance director, Decolas Kizza.

They presented the sums of FUFA incomes and expenses for the year 2013/14.

5 –Project Proposals for upcoming 5th FIFA Goal project and new Member Associations.

Some of the proposed projects FUFA will present to FIFA for possible sponsorship included;
– Building another floor at the current FUFA House in Mengo
– Building a stadium within Kampala
– Constructing 3 regional stadia in upcountry regions
– FUFA’s idea of coming up with a federation owned radio station and TV station

6 – FUFA official Match Day Ball:
The Assembly passed the proposal of the FUFA official match day that will be used in all FUFA competitions.

This is in line with further promoting the FUFA logo.

The Executive will soon meet to decide upon the manufacturer of the ball that FUFA will use officially.

6 – Acknowledging Work of FUFA Staff:
The 90th Assembly in unison acknowledged the tremendous work of all the FUFA staff.

A special motion of acknowledgement was successfully passed by the delegates as FUFA C.E.O Edgar Watson introduced one individual after another.

A standing ovation was accorded to Muhammood‘Blatter’ Kalema for the exceptional service offered to FUFA.
