Uganda Cranes have played to a one all draw with the visiting Gambia national team, The Scorpions at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium on Heroes day.
Uganda opened the scoring with second half substitute, Robert Sentongo, who replaced Yunus Sentamu at the start of the second half scoring the opener with a great headed effort past goal keeper, Jobe Modou in the 61st minute of the game.
Sentongo’s goal was assisted by fellow second half substitute, Brian Umony who plays for Ethiopian league champions, St George Football Club.
Omar Jagne, a substitute player for the visitors grabbed the equalizer after defender Shafik Bakaki, who had replaced Farouk Miya hesitated to clear the ball out of danger.
Uganda’s head coach, Micho used the friendly game as build up to the AFCON 2017 group D qualifier with Botswana, still at Namboole.
Meanwhile, the visitors from Gambia are preparing for their own away tie to South Africa in the same AFCON 2017 qualification campaign.
The international build up game was handled by Uganda’s FIFA Senior referee Denis Batte, who replaced Rajab Bakasambe who had earlier been assigned the job.
Batte was assisted by Hussein Bugembe (Assistant referee 1), Ronald Katenya (Assistant referee 2) and Ssali Mashood as the 4th official.
