Uganda National women football team and officials left on Friday morning at 10.34am for the trip to Kisumu where they will play a friendly match against Kenya on Sunday. There was a lot of excitement among the players and officials at FUFA House before they departed.
They were served breakfast at FUFA House but many players were just in awesome moments.
Right back defender Viola Namuddu a player with FUFA Women Elite League champions Kawempe Muslim Secondary School said that she has been dreaming of playing for her country.
‘I love my country Uganda. I am excited about this opportunity to play for Crested Cranes’ said Namuddu
Christine Wanyana who plays for Buikwe She Red Stars was named captained to be assisted by She Corporates equally experienced player Stella Nasuna Kaliba.
‘I have confidence in this pair as they have experience in the leadership roles in football’ said head coach Nantanda Majidah.
Before departure the players were briefed by FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein on how to handle media related issues especially when approached for interviews.
The players were also hosted in the studios on 102.1 FUFA fm.

‘You need to remain confident and relevant to what has been asked by the media. Create a working relationship with the media so that they also get to fall in love with women football hence increased coverage of the game’ said Hussein
Former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Paul Ssali who also traveled with the team to Kenya talked to the players as well.

‘Playing for the National team is total pride. Very many young girls play football but being in the final 19 squad going to Kenya is a big achievement. National team selection is based on performance. Do not relax after the trip to Kenya’ noted Ssali who has contributed immensely to women football in Uganda since the early 90s.

FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson wished the team a safe journey to Kenya and back home.
‘Go and play to the best of your ability. We believe in you. You need to work hard and as a team during the match’ said Watson
