Herman Wasswa and Tony Odour formed a deadly strike partnership for KCC FC as they brought down home side El Merriekh in Khartoum in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. The Ugandan champions won 2-0 thanks to first half goals by Wasswa and Odour. KCC FC walked on to the artificial turf pitch with their minds set on improving from their last outing in Khartoum when they drew 1-1 with the same club in the same competition that got them knocked out 2-1 on aggregate. Both goals for KCC FC were netted in the first half as the game also saw KCC FC keeper Salim Jamal Magoola save a second half penalty by Wawa Pascal after Captain Fahad Kawooya had brought down Faisal Musa in the forbidden area.

In Lubumbashi, another Ugandan representative in continental football this season Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) lost 3-0 to Don Bosco of Democratic Republic of Congo. SCVU were making their debut appearance on the continent.
