Kenya and Ethiopia played to a goalless draw during an official opening match played here at Nyayo stadium Wednesday evening.
Former Kenya Prime Minister Raila Odinga was the chief guest at a match watched by relatively few fans. Kenya’s Harambee stars however played without their Belgian head coach Adel Amrouche who is reported to have gone on a strike over pay.
Available information alleges that Amrouche has not been paid by the Federation Kenya Football (FKF) for four months now. AFC Leopards Coach James Nandwa who deputizes him was in charge of the team’s technical bench. Nandwa said his boys had performed above average.
Earlier in the day, South Sudan put up a great fight against Zanzibar but still lost the field battle 2-0 to the islanders.
Action resumes on Thursday with Burundi hosting Somalia and Tanzania main land taking on Zambia at Machakos. Uganda will play Rwanda on Friday.
