NILE BASIN 2014: 10 Man Victoria University overcomes Polisi 3 – 0

Sports Club Victoria University (Uganda) 3 – 0 Polisi (Zanzibar)

Al Merriehk (Sudan) 4 – 2 Malakia (South Sudan)

A 10 man Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) beat Zanzibar’s Polisi f.c 3 – 0 to progress to the quarterfinals of the inaugural CECAFA Nile Basin cup in Sudan.

A brace from midfielder, Jackson Kibirige and Muzamiru Mutyaba helped the Ugandan side progress.

Mutyaba, who later saw red from Ethiopian referee Tadesse Belay for indecent conduct opened the scoring with a well taken penalty in the 39th minute of the game.

Jackson Kibirige (played the 2013/14 season on loan at Bul-Bidco) scored another penalty on 45 minutes before he notched his second on the day 3 minutes into the second stanza of the game.

Coach Morley Byekwaso made 5 changes from the team that drew goalless with Al Merriek in the second game.

Goalkeeper, Kimera Ali started ahead of Benjamin Ochan, Agadu Fred replaced Denis Okot, Hamuza Delu for Juuko Murushid, Dan Opolot Isiagi for Brian Toorach while two goal hearo, Jackson Kibirige was picked ahead of Yasser Mugerwa.

Al Merreikh finished as group A winners after winning 4 – 2 over South Sudanese side, Malakia.

SCVU progress to last 8 stage as runners up while Malakia who won over Polisi will make it to quarters for been credited as the second runners up team in the group.
Group games continue on Wednesday.
The tourney winners will bag USD 60,000, first runners up will take home 20,000 while the second runners up will pocket 10,000.
