Online CAF Safety and Security Regional Workshop commences

The CAF Safety and Security Regional Workshop got underway on Thursday with a series of activities conducted via online learning.

The two day course that is concurrently being held in Uganda and Tanzania runs under the theme, “Promoting Stadium Safety and Security.”

A total of 30 participants from Uganda, comprising of officials from FUFA, StarTimes Uganda Premier League and StarTimes FUFA Big League Clubs attended the opening day via Zoom.

Some of the topics discussed on Thursday included;

  • Challenges of Safety and Security in Africa
  • CAF Safety and Security Regulations
  • Responsibilities of the CAF Safety and Security Officers
  • Protecting players, officials and VVIPs
  • Stewarding
  • Accreditation and Access Control
  • Contingency and emergency planning
  • Ticketing

FUFA Deputy CEO-Services, Humphrey Mandu was one of the CAF Safety and Security facilitators and he was assigned to discuss Accreditation and Access Control plus Responsibilities of CAF Safety and Security Officers.

Hajji Abdu Ssekabira, the Chairman of the FUFA Safety and Security Committee who also doubles as a CAF Safety and Security Officer indicates the workshop is aimed at emphasizing the importance of stadia safety and believes clubs in the top tier and second division ought to embrace the steps taken.

“The two-day workshop that started today is aimed at enabling our clubs in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and the StarTimes FUFA Big League understand the importance of safety and security at stadia. CAF has a deliberate plan to eradicate violence and hooliganism during games and this can only be achieved by training personnel at different clubs,” he said before adding.

“Uganda is among the participants that were selected by CAF to take part in this workshop and I’m glad to be one of the facilitators. After two days of learning, the participants will be awarded with certificates by CAF.”
