Matchday 16 of the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League is here with six exciting fixtures evenly distributed on Saturday and Sunday and a lot at stake for the different clubs as we get into the season’s closing stages.

Table leaders Kampala Queens will be hoping to further bolster their title charge by winning against Rines SS WFC who they are hosting at the MTN Omondi stadium on Saturday morning. Unbeaten in 15 matches, the ‘Queens of Soccer’ will also be playing to keep their flawless record intact. Even if they are to do it, they are expected to find it easy against a very stubborn side that has struggled to get results in second round.

Just one point separates Makerere University WFC in 8th on 16 points and She Corporates in 9th on 15 points two sides that are desperately in need of points to strengthen their position on the league table. A win for the hosts will see them leapfrog Rines into 7th if they fail to pick at least a point from Kampala Queens whereas a win for the Jinja-based ‘Sharks’ will see them leapfrog their hosts into the 8th position.

In their quest to avoid the drop, 10th placed Olila H/S WFC which is just 2 points above the relegation zone entertains 4th placed Lady Doves which boasts of current league top scorer Resty Kobusobozi. A win for Olila will see them switch places with She Corporates if they get anything less than a win against Makerere University. On the other hand Lady Doves want to win to keep peace with the leading pack and 3 points would see them tie with 3rd placed Amus College WFC on 26 points.

On Sunday, ‘the Kiddawalime girls’ of Uganda Martyrs Ladies will welcome Wakiso Hill WFC at the at the St Gerald stadium with 3 points on the back of their minds. Wakiso hill has the poorest record in the league having failed to win a single match out of the 15 so far played. They have lost 10 and drawn 5 and will need a miracle to beat the drop.  Their hosts on the other hand have turned around their fortunes after a poor first round to climb to 5th place on 19 points.

She Maroons hosts struggling Tooro Queens in the Prison grounds hoping to capitalize on home advantage to get the better of their visitors from Fort Portal. They are currently in 6th position tied on 19 points with Uganda Martyrs Ladies who have scored 3 more goals than them. On 12 points 11th placed Tooro Queens desperately needs to win lest they lose the battle as fellow would be relegation candidates Olila HS WFC are 2 points ahead of them and seem to be steadily getting away.

In Kawempe, the Valley ground will host what promises to be a very interesting encounter between the 2nd and 3rd separated by 4 points. Kawempe Muslim Ladies on 31 points hosts Amus College WFC who on 26 points don’t want to lose track of the leading two. The Faridah Bulega coached side who were promoted from the Finance Trust FUFA Women Elite league last season have been a surprise package putting up a formidable performance in their maiden season in the top tier women league. Kawempe Muslim wants to win to keep pressure on the table leaders who may easily increase their 6 point advantage in case of any further slip up by the defending champions.
