After joining the rest of the players who started camp a week earlier, South African based Ugandan solid midfielder Khlaid Aucho states that many might undermine Uganda as an underdog in group D but their exhibition will prove them wrong.
“Uganda has ever played against all those teams in the group but we are not scared of them” Vowed Aucho.
Group D has Uganda, Ghana, Mali and Egypt. The Uganda Cranes kick start their campaign against Ghana Black Stars on 19th January 2017 in Port Gentil.
The former Simba FC midfielder, now featuring at Baroka Football Club alongside team captain Geofrey Massa said that the teams focus is to get out of the group stages and then switch the focus to getting farther in the tournament.
He added that Uganda has to prove to the world that they qualified on merit therefore the boys are working hard to get to AFCON when prepared to compete rather than participating.
Speaking about the competition for the final squad of 23 Khalid outlined that it is normal because it is every players dream to feature at AFCON.
“I like the competition in camp. Every player is giving his best to please the coach to be named on the final 23 man squad for the finals in Gabon” noted Aucho.
Aucho featured for the Cranes in all the six AFCON 2017 qualifier matches and scored one of the goals when Uganda beat Botswana 2-1 in Francistown to secure vital away points which geared the qualifiers to Gabon.
