Stanbic Uganda Cup 2021: Round of 16 draws completed

The Stanbic Uganda Cup 2021 round of 16 draws were held at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

FUFA Deputy CEO – Football Decolas Kiiza Hantali, FUFA club licensing manager Ivan Kintu Bayige, Esther Musoke (FUFA Marketing Director), former Uganda Cup winner Andrew Lule and Ahmed Hussein (FUFA Communications Director) conducted the tranquil draw.

In the draws proper, army side UPDF was picked out of the draw casket first with the home fixture against the 2016 champions Vipers at the Army Military Stadium, Bombo.

This was followed by the 2019 winners Proline and 1999 champions Mbale Heroes fixture; Onduparaka Vs SC Villa, Wakiso Giants Vs Tooro United, Police Vs Soltilo Bright Stars, Express Vs URA, BUL against Kitara or Kigezi Home Boyz.

The first leg of the Kitara versus Kigezi Home Boyz duel will be played on 29th April 2021.

Kiiza appreciated the different stakeholders that have witnessed the smooth progress of this tournament.

From the Government that blessed the return of sports in the country after a lengthy COVID-19 ban on recreation and sporting events to the club owners, players, media, sponsors, Kiiza was full of praise.

‘We thank the Government that allowed the return of sports; clubs, players, referees, sponsors, media and all key stake holders that have enabled the smooth play of the Stanbic Uganda Cup. We humbly appeal to the clubs to comply with the set regulations’ Kiiza noted.

Bayige explained the playing format of the games (home and away) between 1st and 6th May 2021.

‘The Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 games will be played on home and away basis between 1st and 6th May 2021’ Bayige confirmed.

Lule recounted the memories he enjoyed during the times at Express Football Club where he won the trophy twice in 1997 and 2001.

‘It is a big honour to win the Stanbic Uganda Cup. I recall the memories when I guided Express to two titles in 1997 and 2001. My most memorable moment was in 2001 in the semi-finals against KCC. Their player Morley Byekwaso gave me a very big challenge but we managed to win’ Lule stated.

The first and return legs will be played between 1st and 6th May 2021 on a home and away basis.

Stanbic Uganda Bank is the main sponsor of the tournament with Kansai Plascon the other partner.
