A thrilling encounter between SC Villa and Vipers SC is set to light up the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals, with the draw producing some fascinating matchups as the tournament moves into its defining stage.
The draw, conducted at Kansai Plascon Head Offices in Industrial Area, Kampala on Monday by Plascon Uganda Managing Director Santosh Gumte has set the stage for an epic battle between two of the country’s football powerhouses. SC Villa, Uganda’s most successful club with nine Uganda Cup titles, will lock horns with three-time champions Vipers SC in what promises to be a feisty repeat of their recent league encounter. The Jogoos edged that match 1-0 thanks to a decisive strike from Charles Lwanga, a result that has only added more fuel to their growing rivalry.

According to FUFA Competitions Director, Hajjati Aisha Nalule, the quarterfinals will take place between April 18th and 22nd, 2025. Should matches end in a stalemate after 90 minutes, teams will battle through two 15-minute halves of extra time. If still level, the fate of the tie will be settled by penalty shootouts.
“Extra time of not more than 15 minutes per half will be played in the event of a draw at the end of regulation time. If there’s no winner after that, spot kicks will decide who advances,” she clarified.

Vipers and SC Villa both booked their quarterfinal berths in convincing fashion. The Venoms swept aside FUFA Big League outfit Blacks Power with minimal fuss, while Villa continued their impressive Cup form by edging Lugazi FC 1-0 away from home, their third consecutive away win in the tournament.

Meanwhile, cup holders Kitara FC face a daunting test against high-flying BUL FC in what is expected to be a fiercely contested fixture. Kitara had to dig deep to eliminate Gaddafi FC in the previous round, while BUL FC were ruthless in dispatching Total FC.

KCCA FC, Uganda Cup joint record holders, will travel to face this season’s surprise package, Kaaro Karungi. The underdogs stunned UPDF FC in the previous round and will be hoping to write another fairy-tale chapter against the Kasasiro Boys.
Kaaro Karungi head coach Richard Makumbi expressed confidence in his team ahead of the fixture.
‘We are already prepared. They play good football and my players are capable of playing such. I have liked it that I am going to face KCCA,’ he said
The final tie sees Police FC matched up against ambitious Big League side Kataka FC, setting the stage for possible upsets as the quarterfinal drama unfolds.
While speaking to the press, Kataka FC Head Coach Godfrey Toldo Awachango mentioned that his side has been in the Quarter Finals before and is ready for the task ahead.
‘This is not our first time to play the Quarter Finals. As Kataka, we have no panic. We are just ready for that day,’ he said.
