Stanbic Uganda Cup: Sports Club Villa, Bright Stars advance to round of 32

Stanbic Uganda Cup – Round of 64:

Thursday Results:

  • Koboko Rising Stars 0-1 Bright Stars
  • Six O’clock 1 (2) – 1 (4) Kitara

  • Kampala University Vs Kataka – Kampala University, Luweero (Postponed)

The 46th Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 64 matches progressed well on Thursday with five matches played across the country.

Sports Club Villa, last year’s losing finalists Bright Stars and Maroons are the top flight clubs that progressed to the next stage, round of 32.

SC Villa defeated Northern region side Supers Eagles 4-1 at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu.

The goals for the 9 time Uganda Cup winners were scored by David Owori, Bashir Mutanda, Ronald Magwali and Abdallah Salim.

James Angu’s first half strike in the 19th minute was the all important goal that Bright Stars needed to outwit Koboko Rising Stars 1-0 at the Nyarilo ground in Koboko.

James Angu scored the lone strike in the 19th minute.

Meanwhile, Maroons overcame Young Elephants 4-1 in post-match penalties at the Olwio St Mark Ground in Nwoya district. Normal time of this match had ended goal-less.

Other successful clubs:

FUFA Big league sides Kitara and Kiboga Young also advanced to the next round.

Kitara ejected Six O’clock 4-2 in post match penalties after 1 all in normal time at the Kizinda play ground in Western Uganda.

Kiboga Young eliminated their hosts Ggaba 3-1 in post-match penalties after normal time had ended goal-less at the Buziga Islamic play-ground in Kampala.

The round of 64 matches continue on Friday with a number of matches.

The Uganda Cup tournament is knock out in nature and the winner earns a ticket to play at the CAF Confederations Cup.
