Former FUFA Presidential aspirant Taban Amin took a wise decision of joining the Federation and working together after failing to meet the basic requirements to contest for Presidency in the elections scheduled for August 31st at Njeru technical Centre.
Taban, son to former head of state Gen. Idi Amin ‘Dada’ was part of the audience that camped in Hoima to watch the FUFA-MTN inter regional competitions that officially closed last weekend. Buganda beat defending champions Eastern 4-2 on spot kicks after a 1-all draw in the normal time to lift the title.
On arrival for the opening ceremony, Taban walked direct to the front table where the outgoing FUFA President Lawrence Mulindwa and the incoming President Eng. Moses Magogo were seated and shook hands with them as a sign of unity. To further show respect to the federation leaders, Taban stood upright, took off his military cap and greeted Mulindwa before taking his seat.
“Football needs all of us and we shall work together…thanks for the good work so far done. We are at a better stage than before” Taban was heard saying in a conversation with Mulindwa.
When time for the inspection of players came, Taban moved alongside Mulindwa and Magogo and stood next to them as the band played the national anthem.
Taban was among the six aspirants who picked the nomination forms to contest for the position of the FUFA President but the Electoral committee threw him out after failing to meet some of the basic requirements.
Taban’s action to get close to FUFA is a welcome idea and others should emulate him instead of resisting the federation from a distance.
