KCCA FC, Vipers SC take leads in Uganda Cup semi-final first legs

KCCA FC, Vipers SC take leads in Uganda Cup semi-final first legs

KCCA FC and Vipers SC took significant steps toward reaching the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup final after securing crucial first-leg victories in their respective semi-final clashes.

At the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, 10-time Uganda Cup winners KCCA FC cruised to a 3-0 win over Big League side Kataka FC. The Kasasiro Boys were dominant from kickoff, with goals from Emmanuel Anyama who bagged a brace and Ashraf Mugume putting them firmly in the driving seat ahead of the return leg on May 18.

Anyama opened the scoring just before halftime, capping off a well-worked team move. He added his second shortly after the break with a thunderous strike from outside the box. Mugume later punished a defensive lapse to seal the third, giving KCCA a commanding cushion.

Kataka, who had previously knocked out top-tier teams URA FC and Police FC via penalty shootouts, found themselves overwhelmed by KCCA’s superior pace, pressing, and technical quality.

In the other semi-final encounter played earlier at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, defending champions Kitara FC fell 1-0 to hosts Vipers SC. Substitute Yunus Junior Sentamu emerged the hero with a sensational 94th-minute volley, breaking the deadlock in dramatic fashion.

The match had been a tense and physical affair, with both sides locked in a midfield battle and chances hard to come by. Kitara’s Patrick Kaddu came closest in regulation time, smashing the crossbar in the first half.

The decisive second legs will be played over the weekend of May 17, with both finalists set to be determined ahead of the grand finale at the newly completed FUFA Kadiba Stadium in Kampala.

While speaking to www.fufa.co.ug, Mucureezi attributed this milestone to his dedication to leaving a legacy wherever he goes.

Reaching the sixth final is a great feeling and a big achievement in my career. I am so excited about it because reaching such a milestone isn’t a walk in the park. Stanbic Uganda Cup: Penalties Separate Vipers From Jinja North | 49th Edition

Fulltime, Jinja North (6) 0-0 (7) Vipers

Vipers have advanced to the round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after eliminating FUFA Big League side Jinja North United at the Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe in a highly contested match.

Normal time ended in a goalless draw but the 2022 finalists were on receiving end. Defender Murushid Juuko cleared the ball off the line in the 15th minute when Jinja North forward Mataama Dickson beat Vipers goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora off the ball but his shot found the solid defender well positioned to clear the ball off the line. After two minutes, the hosts made another attempt which saw Fabien stretch on the ground to punch the ball out of the goal area.

The visiting side also got a scoring chance in the first half of the game but striker Karim Ndugwa headed Yunus Ssentamu’s freekick over the bar.

The second half was a bit dull with fewer scoring opportunities. A memorable long-range shot from David Bagoole was saved by Mutobora leaving him on the ground to call for medical attention.

Center Referee Stephen Kimayo had no choice rather than calling for the ball and ask teams to prepare for kicks from the penalty mark after a goalless scoreline at fulltime. The game ended 6-7 after kicks from the penalty mark to see Vipers traveling fans celebrating.

Jinja North’s Mataama Dickson missed the seventh kick with Outa Dickson, Kiiza Musa, Mwanje Samuel, Kyeyune Umar, Deo Isejja, and Kibande Paul converting while Desire Tety, Martin Kizza, Yisa Mubiru, Olivoer Osomba, Milton Kariisa, Hillary Mukundane, and Fabien Mutombora converted for Vipers SC.
