The 2019 CECAFA U20 Boys Challenge Cup has successfully climaxed in Uganda with Tanzania lifting trophy.
Tanzania beat rivals Kenya 1-0 during a well fought for final held at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Saturday.
Kenya’s defender John Otieno Onyango headed home an own goal following a free kick delivered by Israel Patrick Mwenda as the close of the first half.
The early kick off third place play off between Sudan and Eritrea was won by the latter 1-0.
Biniam Mengsteab scored in the 67th minute for the match winner.
Awards:
The winners were rewarded with gold medals and a glittering trophy. Kenya picked silver and Eritrea bronze.
Other rewards:
Tanzania’s John Pius Kelvin was top scorer with seven goals and Best Player of the tournament while Kenya’s Brian Okoth Bwire was best goalkeeper.
Uganda won the Fair Play accolade which was handed over to the FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edgar Watson.
FUFA officials led by the Ag. President Justus Mugisha, CECAFA delegation and the members of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) watched the match.
