The FUFA Drum 2022
Matchday Four
Round of 16, Return Leg
Ankole 0-1 Lango (Lango advance 1-0 on aggregate).
Sebei 4-4 Bugisu
(Bugisu advance 7-4 on aggregate).
Lango Province secured a slot into the quarterfinals of this year’s FUFA Drum tournament after eliminating Ankole.
In the game played on Saturday at St. George Core PTC Kagongo Playground, Ibanda, visiting Lango won 1-0 thus progressing to the next stage.
Dennis Omedi’s solitary strike in the first half turned out to be decisive moment of the game.
Omedi was well stationed to slot home from close range after Moses Aliro set him up in the 23rd minute.
A long pass from Emmanuel Odur found Aliro in the box and the latter headed the ball into Omedi’s path who was quick to tap the ball beyond goalkeeper Muhammad Ssekeba.
Despite efforts to search for the equalizer, Ankole failed to break a resilient Lango side.
The result eventually meant Lango stormed the last eight 1-0 on aggregate. It should be noted that the first leg at Akii Bua Stadium had ended goalless.
Lango therefore joins Buganda, Kampala, West Nile, Acholi and Bugisu as the other teams that have reached the quarterfinals.
The last two slots will be completed on Sunday with Teso playing Busoga in Bukedia while Rwenzori take on neighbours Tooro in Bundibugyo.
