TOTAL AFCON U-23 Olympics Qualifiers (First Round, First Leg):
- Uganda Kobs (U23) 1-0 South Sudan U-23
Uganda Kobs beat South Sudan 1-0 in the first leg of the preliminary round for the Total AFCON U-23 qualifiers played at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo in Kampala. The Qualifiers will also help CAF to determine the final teams to play at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
KCCA FC left back Mustapha Kizza scored the lone goal in the well contested match.
Kizza scored a last minute penalty after South Sudan goalkeeper Ramadan John Mayik Diing brought down Steven Mukwala in the penalty area.
In either halves, the Ugandan youngsters expressed the urge to break the deadlock although the visitors remained intact at the back line with solid display.
Julius Poloto, Allan Okello, Joel Madondo and Steven Mukwala all got close but could not succeed.
In the second half, Joel Madondo and Musitafa Mujuzi paved way for Duncan Sseninde and Joseph Ssemujju respectively to add more impact up front.
The game was well attended by fans who cheered the teams from start to finish.
The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo graced the game also watched by the Executive Committee members, FUFA delegates and staff.
Julius Wandera Maganda, State Minister for the East African Affairs was Guest of Honour.
The Kobs players return to training on Friday in preparation for the return leg that will be played on 20th November 2018 at the Juba Stadium.
The winner over two legs on aggregate will face Tunisia during the next stage of the qualifiers in March 2019.
