Total Energies AFCON Finals Cameroon 2021: Ugandans appointed by CAF for duty

When the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations 2021 kicks off in Cameroon on 9thJanuary, Ugandans will still be represent at the Finals though on official duties.

The absence of Uganda Cranes at the Finals has not stopped creation of openings for some Ugandans to execute assignments at the tournament.

Nine Ugandans led by the FUFA President and CAF Executive Committee Member Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim will duly serve in varying capacities at the tournament that ends on 6thFebruary 2021.

CAF has named a 219 strong Delegation for the AFCON Finals.

It is a team of vastly experienced, committed and passionate personalities to serve under various jurisdictions.

Hon. Magogo will attend by virtue of being a CAF Executive Committee Member. He will also take on assignments as set out by CAF for other Executive Committee Members.

The FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Edgar Watson is among the members in the Technical Study Group.

Watson’s experience in the same role stems from previous tournaments in Youth Competitions, CHAN Finals and AFCON 2017 and 2019.

Mike Letti is a Match Commissioner. For a long time now, Letti has been a CAF and FIFA Match Commissioner since 2013.

He has handled several continental engagements including the Total Energies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

He has also served as Commissioner in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Ali Mwebe, FUFA Football Development Director

FUFA Football Development Director Ali Mwebe will be Assistant General Coordinator at the tournament.

He has garnered experience since 2018 where he has been General coordinator in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup Competitions, Africa Youth Championships and CECAFA tournaments. 

He will make his debut at the AFCON Senior tournament.

Experienced Safety and Security officer Dixon ‘Bond’ Okello who headed the security operations at the 2019 AFCON finals in Egypt, returns among the CAF Safety & Security Officers for the tournament.

Okello took on assignments by CAF and FIFA at various Youth and Senior World cup championships. He also handled security and safety at the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup.

Okello is the reigning best CAF Safety and Security Officer.

Dick Okello is among the Assistant referees appointed for the tournament. He gets another shot at a bigger stage after appearing at the CHAN Finals in Cameroon and handling the final of the 2020/2021 Total Energies CAF champions League between Al Ahly and Kaizer Chiefs.

Okello has also been a present figure in officiating CAF and FIFA football Competitions.

Okello is making his debut at the AFCON Finals.

Uganda will still be represented by Andrew Jackson Oryada, the CECAFA Media Manager. His vast experience in the media world and more so in the Online publications will be beneficial to the entire continent.

He has served as Media officer in CECAFA and CAF Championships of clubs and National teams.

He was in Cameroon for the CHAN Finals and AFCON 2019 in Egypt in the field of media appointed by CAF. He also worked at the 2021 COSAFA Women Championship hosted by South Africa.

Oryada was appointed as one of the Editors (English) for CAF website during the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon.

Esther Musoke is the Marketing Director of FUFA. Musoke undertook various special training progammes with CAF and FIFA set up for Football Federations.

The appointment by CAF will give her an opportunity to share her vast knowledge and experience at the continent’s biggest tournament.

She is making her debut at the soccer showpiece in the marketing section. 

FUFA Communications Director, Ahmed Hussein

Ahmed Hussein is another Ugandan appointed for the AFCON Finals. He will also be making his debut at the tournament but has tasted life in the CAF Club and National team engagements at the highest level. 

Hussein has traversed the continent on assignments by CAF to handle some of the explosive fixtures in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

He also handled the AFCON U-17 Finals in Gabon as Media Officer for the entire tournament.

The Total Energies AFCON Finals will be played in six venues across five host cities in Yaounde, Douala, Limbe, Bafoussam and Garoua.

In Yaounde, there are two stadiums; the 60,000 seater Olembe and 42,500 seater Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, the 30,000 seater Roumde Adjia Stadium is in Garoua, Japoma stadium (50,000 seater) in Douala city, Kouekong stadium (20,000 seater) is Bafoussam city and Limbe Stadium (20,000 seater) is Limbe city.
