Final: Kenya 2 (3) – 2 (2) Zanzibar

Third Place play off Match: Zanzibar 1-2 Uganda Cranes

Uganda Cranes settled for third place at the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup championship.

This was after a hard fighting show when the CECAFA record winners (with 14 titles) recovered from a goal down to win 2-1 against Burundi in the third place play off match at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.

Pierre Kwizera’s 23 minute opener was neutralized by Ibrahim Sadam Juma’s brace in the second half.

Sadam’s first goal arrived in the 48th minute with a well timed volley off Nelson Senkatuka’s assist.

The second goal and the match winner was a perfectly curled free-kick on 75 minutes.

Uganda finish third for the 7th time since the tournament inception in 1926.

The other years when Uganda Cranes took bronze were 1983, 1984, 1987, 1991, 2007 and lately 2010.

Kenya won their 7th title after overcoming Zanzibar 3-2 in post match penalty kicks. Normal time ended 2 goals each.

The Uganda Cranes delegation will return home on Monday.
