Uganda Cranes on Monday, 27th January 2025 learned the teams they will face at the coveted 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.

The Draw for the biennial continental tournament was held at the prestigious Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat.

Uganda was represented at the Draw event by Head Coach Paul Joseph Put and National Teams’ Officer Paul Mukatabala.

In the draw, Uganda was placed in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania.

Uganda will begin the tournament on 23rd December 2025 against Tunisia before taking on neighbours Tanzania on 27th of the same month and ending group business with Nigeria three days later.

Coach Put believes his charges will be up to the task come December and hopes for a good show at AFCON 2025.

“At this stage, there are no small teams and I believe we are ready to take on the teams we have been pitted against. I have always said that the stronger the wave, the stronger the ship.” He said.

Players’ reactions

‘Being at AFCON means you’re strong enough to compete with any team. I know my boys and they will deliver. We want to make our fans happy’

Denis Omedi-Forward

‘It is not a very bad group. Each and every single game won’t be easy. Each team that has made it to this stage, deserves it. The first game of the competition is important and we need to be focused. We shall be in Morocco to defend our Nation. It’s a group that any team has a chance to get out to the next round’

Isima Watenga- Goalkeeper

‘It is a tough group but with the dedication and hard work we put up in the qualifiers, i believe we are ready to face any team on the continent so that we raise our flag so high’

Allan Okello-Midfielder

‘It was a good draw but very tricky. In this tournament every team is hard to play. We shall play some big teams like Nigeria and Tunisia and more so face our neighbours Tanzania making it tricky. The players need to prepare well and see what comes in the tournament’

Uganda will be playing at AFCON for the eighth time having featured at the 1962, 1968, 1974, 1976, 1978, 2017 and 2019 editions.
