Uganda Cubs successfully defend CECAFA U-17 trophy with comprehensive victory over Tanzania

CECAFA U-17 Tournament 2020:

  • Final: Uganda 3-1 Tanzania
  • 3rd Place Playoff: Djibouti 2-5 Ethiopia

The Uganda National U-17 (Cubs) majestically defended the CECAFA U-17 title with a victory 3-1 over Tanzania at the Stade De Umuganda, Rubavu in Rwanda on Tuesday, 22nd December 2020.

Three second-half goals from towering defender Ivan Irinimbabazi, stylish midfielder Travis Mutyaba, and a kick from the penalty spot by skipper Ibrahim Juma who the game for Uganda, a side coached by Hamuzah Lutalo.

Irinimbabazi powerfully connected home with a header off Vincent Mulema’s free-kick on 62 minutes.

Mutyaba added the second after beating three defenders before slamming the ball home and captain Juma ensured the victory in Uganda’s hands with a well struck kick from penalty spot.

Omar Mvungi had threatened for Tanzania and witnessed his effort hit the lower bottom of the goal post.

Eventually, Tanzania’s consolation was an unfortunate own goal by Mulema.

Uganda lifted the trophy for the second time in a row and took a hat-trick of individual accolades.

Mutyaba was named the tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP), Oscar Mawa top the top scorer’s boot with 6 goals and Henry Mwebe was best goalkeeper of the tournament.
