Saturday action:

FUFA Big League Side Jinja Municipal Council FC survived yet another penalty shootout for the second time in this year’s Uganda cup played on a knockout basis.

In the Jinja derby played on Saturday at Kakindu Stadium between BUL FC and Jinja Municipal, normal time of 90 minutes and the extra 30 minutes failed to produce goals. Jinja who needed the penalty shootout against Kampala regional league side Stegota FC in the round of 32, were at their best as they silenced their ‘Seniors’ BUL FC 4-3 from 12 yards. In this year’s competition, Jinja Municipal has already beaten non-league side Water FC (1-2) in the round of 64 at Nakivubo stadium, Stegota FC at Kazo and Police FC 1-0. Jinja Municipal will now play URA in the semis.

The other match played yesterday saw defending champions Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) marching to the last four stage following a 2-1 win over Hope Soana at the UPK grounds in Kyambogo. Cranes international Denis Guma and Noah Semakula netted SCVU’s goals as they seek to return to the continent by successfully defending the Uganda cup-which will give them the right to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederations cup next year. Kayiwa Allan was on target for Hope Soana.

SCVU will face either KCC FC or Lweza FC in the semifinals to be played over two legs. Both KCC and Lweza clash on 18th April, 2014 at the KCCA stadium in Lugogo.
