Uganda Girls U17 provisional squad of 30 players has been summoned to begin preparations for the inaugural COSAFA U17 Girls Championship in Mauritius from 20th – 29th September 2019.

The selected players will have 10 days of residential camping at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru from Sunday 8th– 17th September 2019.

Head Coach Ayub Khalifa, his assistants Hadijah Namuyanja and goalkeeping coach Moses Oloya will trim the squad to 20 players that will represent Uganda at the championship.

Majority of the players are picked from Schools competitions (National Ball Games), the ongoing Airtel Rising Stars, Regional leagues and some from the FUFA Women Elite League.

Among them is the reigning East Africa Games (FEASSSA) Girls Football MVP Nyagahirwa Shakira, top scorer Fauzia Najjemba and Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC forward Juliet Nalukenge.

‘We have keenly taken time to come up with this provisional squad. They have been pillars in their teams during National competitions. We shall use the time available in camp to build their hearts to die a little for the nation and compete’ Said Head Coach Ayub

The team will play two build-up matches on Wednesday 11th and Sunday 15th September before traveling to Mauritius.

According to the tournament regulations, players that qualify to participate in the championship must be 16 years and below (born on 1st January 2003 and below).

Uganda is in group A and will play Zambia in the first game on 20th September at St. Francois Xavier Stadium. The second game is against the hosts Mauritius on 22nd September before playing Comoros in the last group game on 24th September at the MFA Technical facility.

GOALKEEPERS: Nyayenga Daphine (Uganda Martrys), Nyamita Zulaika (Pride College), Namusisi Joan (Mukono High), Nasasira Gift (Gadafi Integrated) and Kamuli Cecila (King of Kings).

DEFENDERS: Akalinda Gilian (Olila High School), Kabarwani Cissy (King of Kings), Nangozi Maureen (Mukono High School), Lwetuso Regina (Taggy High School), Abba Immaculate (Gadafi Integrated), Atwiine Precious (Upper Hill College), and Namuddu Aisha (Sheema Girls).

MIDFIELDERS: Nakacwa Kevin (Uganda Martrys), Nakacwa Samali (Kawempe Muslim SS), Nyinagahirwa Shakira (Kawempe Muslim SS), Kunuhira Margret (Kawempe Muslim SS), Nyakato Ruth (King of Kings), Babirye Sarah (Kayindu SS), Abiyo Racheal (Olila High School), and Komuntale Sumayah (King of Kings).

FORWARDS: Nalukenge Juliet (Kawempe Muslim SS), Najjemba Fauzia (Mukono High), Nakiyingi Sophie (Gadafi Integrated), Nagadya Catherine (Katuuso Community SS), Nandede Zainah (Amus College), Namaganda Zaitun (Taggy High School), Nadunga Bira (Olila High School), Nandago Hadijah (Kawempe Muslim SS), Chandia Lillian (Alele SS) and Adokole Esther (Amus College).
