The CECAFA 2012 Senior Challenge Cup defending champions-Uganda Cranes launch their campaign to defend this year’s championship this Friday afternoon against rivals Amavubi of Rwanda.
The two teams have settled for a draw in their last two friendly matches but today’s action is highly expected to have a winner. The match will be played at Machakos, a newly constructed stadium 60Kms east of Nairobi City.
In yesterday’s (Thursday) fixture, Burundi beat Somalia 2-0 to write history as the first team to win an international match in Machakos stadium. Abdoul Fiston and Christopher Nduwarugira scored for Burundi in a game watched by a big audience led by the area county Governor Dr. James Mukuwa. Tanzania and visiting Zambia shared points after settling for a 1-all draw in the day’s last fixture.
Meanwhile Uganda will have no opportunity playing in Nairobi during group stage matches after the tournament organizing committee resolved to shift their last group stage engagement against Sudan to Nakuru on December 5. Uganda’s second game after Rwanda will be on December 2 against Eritrea still in Machakos.
