Uganda Kobs See Off Rwanda, Set Up Egypt Tie | CAF U-23 Championship Qualifier

Africa-23 Championship Qualifier:

Uganda Kobs 2 – 0 Rwanda U-23 (Second Leg, Second Round)

[Aggregate Score: Uganda 4-1 Rwanda]

Uganda Kobs has overcome Rwanda U-23 team 2-0 at Nakivubo Stadium in the second leg of the Africa under 23 Championship.

John Ssemazi and skipper, Faruku Miya scored the goals for the home side, both strikes coming in the Second half.

The opening half had ended goal -less with Uganda completing outshining the visitors 2-0.

Faruku Miya would have given the home team the lead within the starting minutes of the game but his tapped in effort after a Ssemazi cross hit the lower part of the goal post with goal keeper, Marcel Nzarora already beaten.

Ssemazi then had a goal bound effort from the left cleared off the line by APR defender, Emery Bayisenge.

Rwanda was unfortunate as they lost APR king pin defender, Michel Rusheshangoga through injury and the combustive defender was replaced by Fitina Ombarenga.

The latter features for Rayon Sports in the Rwanda Premier league.

From then on, the Kobs cooled off the tempo as Rwanda stabilized in the remaining minutes of the game.

The visitors’ best chance of the half fell to AS Kigali striker, Isaie Songa but goal keeper, Jamal Salim was at his best to thwart the in-swinging cross.

By the half time whistle of  FIFA referee, Sabri Mohamed Fadul, from Sudan, the players from either sides needed that much called for breather.

Coach Micho and his technical bench made two significant changes early second half with CS Safien striker Yunus Sentamu replacing Hassan Muhammed Fahad and Muzamiru Mutyaba, scorer of the winner in Kigali coming in for Kezironi Kizito.

The changes had an immediate impact with Uganda scoring the first through John Ssemazi (Sentamu assist from the left) and Faruk Miya with a brilliant half volley off Ssekisambu’s cross from the right.

Rwanda later replaced the day’s skipper, Andrew Buteera for Isonga F.C’s enterprising midfielder, Kevin Muhiire.

Striker, Isaie Songa came close later in the half but his effort flew over Jamal’s goal posts and Ssekisambu hit the post with the Rwandan goalie beaten.

Uganda Kobs eject Rwanda 4-1 on aggregate from the CAF U-23 championship qualification campaign.

Uganda will play Egypt, first away between 17th -19th July 2015 in Cairo before the return leg on the weekend of 1st August 2015.

The winner on aggregate between Uganda and Egypt will book a place at the finals of the 2015 Africa U-23 championship to take place in Dakar between November and December 2015.
