With only three days to start of the 2023 CECAFA U15 Championship, defending Champions and hosts for this year’s edition have expressed readiness to retain the crown.
It should be noted that Uganda won the inaugural edition held in 2019 in Asmara, Eritrea.
On Tuesday, CECAFA confirmed draws for the two groups where eight teams will be taking part.
Uganda is pooled in group A alongside Ethiopia, Djibouti and South Sudan.
Head coach Hamuza Lutalo is confident the preparations his charges have had in the past days will enable Uganda to achieve its target of defending the title.
“We have prepared very well for this Championship and I believe the players will be able to put up good performances for us to retain the trophy. We are developing talent and at the same time want to perform our best with the young boys. The entire team is in good shape and ready for the tournament.” He stated.
“We expect stiff competition from all the teams but the players are aware of the task ahead because this tournament will help us to prepare for AFCON U-17 Zonal Qualifiers next year.” The coach added.
Uganda Rhinos will open the tournament against Djibouti at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Saturday.
The Championship will run from 4th to 16th November 2023.
