The Uganda Cranes will play the Egyptian National ‘A’ team this Monday evening without its key central defender and Victoria University player Denis Iguma.
The team travelled last evening without Iguma who is reportedly serving an injury. The Egyptian friendly match was a last minute alternative for the Iraq match that is still in suspense. By this morning, Uganda had not got a final confirmation as to whether the game in Jordan on October 2 would take place.
FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo has however hailed the Egyptian FA for a timely response towards the request. “As FUFA we are grateful to Egypt for the continued cordial working relationship with us. Considering us for this international friendly is evident that our relationship continues to prosper”, Magogo said.
Uganda last played Egypt in an international friendly match about a month ago and lost 3-0 but head Coach Miluti ‘Micho’ Sredojevic is optimistic that his new side will shine against the hosts this time.
Micho’s team travelled without a single professional player and comprised mainly young stars whom he said needed a lot of exposure as he builds a formidable side to compete in the Orange CHAN 2014 competition scheduled for early next year.
The players on squad that have played international matches before include Captain Richard Kasagga, Joseph Mpande, Saidi Kyeyune, Brian Majwega, Kalanda Frank and Nicholas wadada.
The details confirming the Irag match will be communicated later today and if it aborts then the team will travel back to Kampala on Tuesday.
