Uganda will this year host the CECAFA U15 Boys Championship. The development was confirmed by FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim on Thursday in a press conference held at FUFA Complex in Mengo, Kampala.
It should be noted that the inaugural edition was held in Eritrea in 2019 and Uganda Rhinos won the Championship. Since then, the tournament has not been held and the President indicated there was need to have it back.
‘As FUFA, we took the decision to host this year’s CECAFA U15 Boys Championship. This is a tournament we believe is crucial in the development of players. Many of you see Travis Mutyaba today but he is a product of the U15 team and for us we think, there are many talented players that can get the opportunity to play and get exposed to competitions at that age,’ he said.
The President stated that since the first edition, there has not been will from the CECAFA Member Associations.
‘Since 2019, there has not been will from any of the CECAFA Members to host the tournament but the FUFA Executive Committee that sat on 18th March 2023 took the decision and we will have it here.’
The dates and venue will be communicated later.
