An exciting weekend it was for a number of Ugandan players across the globe that saw Central Midfielder Taddeo head Simba past rivals Yanga SC to win the Tanzanian cup while former Proline duo Edrisa Lubega and David Owori made their debuts in Portugal and Spain respectively.
As Usual Ronald Lusulire kept a keen eye on them to find out who was in and who was out.
Tanzania
Taddeo Lwanga was the hero as Simba SC beat rivals Yanga SC 1-0 in the Azam Sports Federation Cup final at the Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma.
Lwanga headed home the winning goal from Luis Miquissone’s corner kick in the 79th minute.
The crucial goal was his first for the Tanzania Champions since making his move from Egyptian side Tanta SC last year.
Portugal
Striker Edrisa Lubega made his debut as his new club CF Estrela da Amadora won 2-1 against FC Vizela in the Allianz Cup.
Lubega, who joined Estrela da Amadora on loan from Paide Linnameeskond, came off the bench to replace Xavier Fernandez in the 81st minute.
Spain
Former SC Villa midfielder David Owori made his debut at CF Velez as they lost 2-0 to former La Liga side Malaga CF.
Owori was also part of Velez’s 1-0 win over Atletico Malagueno on Sunday night.
Velez is a club located in Malaga and competes in the fourth tier division of Spanish football pyramid.
Turkey
Farouk Miya was not part of Konyaspor’s 2-1 win over BB Erzurumspor in a friendly match. Miya is expected to finalize a move away from the Anatolian Eagles.
Czech Republic
Isaac Muleme played full-time as Viktoria Zizkov lost 3-2 to SK Lisen in the Czech Republic second tier league.
Israel
Fahad Bayo and Timothy Awany were not part of the match day squad as Ashdod drew goal-less with Azerbaijan’s Qarabag Agdam in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Scotland
Bevis Mugabi was not part of the match day squad for Motherwell who beat Annan Athletic 2-0 in the Scottish League Cup.
Morocco
Striker Patrick Henry Kaddu scored one of the three goals as his club Youssoufia Berrechid beat Difaa Hassani El Jadidi 3-2 in the Morocco Botola Pro League.
Kaddu, who came off the bench in the 60th minute, headed home from a distance to ensure Berrechid grab three points in the 79th minute.
Youssouffia Berrechid will have to beat Ittihad Tanger in their final league game on Tuesday so as to beat relegation. They are currently second from bottom with 30 points.
Sudan
Jamal Salim Magoola was unused as Al Hilal Omdurman beat Al Nahud 1-0 to seal a place in the Sudan Cup semi finals.
Denmark
Moses Opondo was an unused substitute as OB Odense drew 1-1 with Randers FC.
Robert Kakeeto was not part of Aalborg’s 1-0 defeat to Midtjylland.
Kenya
William Wadri scored his 12th goal of the season as Bandari beat Posta Rangers 1-0 in the Kenya Premier League on Sunday. Another forward Umaru Kasumba was out on suspension following a red card in the previous game.
Peter Lwasa was part of the Kariobangi Sharks team that lost 3-0 to KCB on the same day.
Defender Junior Mukisa played full-time as his Western Stima lost 2-0 to Vihiga United. His Ugandan teammates Isaac Doka Mweru and Martin Mpuuga didn’t feature.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan was in goal for AFC Leopards as they drew 2-2 with Nzoia Sugar.
USA/MLS
Mustafa Kizza came off the bench in the 83rd minute to replace Zorhan Bassong as CF Montreal lost 2-1 to New England Revolution.
Mustafa’s compatriot and namesake Edward who plays for New England Revolution, was not part of the winning team.
Mike Azira played full-time as New Mexico United drew goal-less with El Paso Locomotive in the US second tier division.
Somalia
Nicholas Kagaba scored one of the two goals for Gaadiidka who lost 4-2 to Mogadishu City Club as the Somalia Premier League climaxed. Kagaba’s teammate Steven Ategeka also played full-time.
Fred Segujja and Rodger Mugisha scored for Jeenyo FC who beat Elman FC 2-1 to survive relegation. Their compatriot Islam Semakula provided the assist for Mugisha’s goal.
The losing side Elman who were subsequently relegated, scored their only goal through former Onduparaka striker Med Kyeline in the 28th minute. Mbaziira Shakidu also featured for Elman.
Algeria
Allan Okello is still out of action and didn’t feature in Paradou’s 2-1 win over Olympic Medea in the Algeria Ligue. He is currently in Uganda.
