Western region league side Bugamba Football Club stunned StarTimes Uganda Premier League club, Onduparaka 1-0 in the Stanbic Uganda cup on Tuesday.
Reagan Bamwesigye scored the all important goal of the well attended match.
The game was played at the rural Bugamba grounds in the newly created Rwampara district on Wednesday.
Bugamba Football Club is found in Bugamba village in the newly created district of Rwampara, recently curved off Mbarara District.
Rugamba FC plays in the Western region league and are currently in 5th position of the Ankole group.
They have a big number of local players who have grown up and studied in Mbarara. They have also had their football career grow and develop in the same district.
‘We have made history and this is what we have been working for. We are through to the round of 32 and if God helps us and we draw for a home game, there is no team that will survive here because we have never lost a game here’ Bugamba coach Salim Twaha.
Now Bugamba made the grade to the round of 32 and will eagerly await for the draw in the prestigious tournament that kicked off in 1971.
The winner of the competition will earn 40M Shillings and also represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup.
