Kakungulu Memorial 0-1 Buikwe She RedStars
Buikwe Red Stars were over the weekend crowned new Buganda Region women soccer league champions after defeating Kakungulu Memorial in the finals played at Kazo grounds.
Left winger Betty Namataka’s 47th minute strike was enough to seal the championship for the Buikwe side as they overcame the challenge of a star studded Kakungulu Memorial side that among others had Crested Crane U20 skipper Stella Kaliba commandind their defence.
The final phase of the league that started with district play offs attracted 8 eight teams from six districts in Buganda Region that first faced off in two groups in Lugazi a fortnight ago.
Buikwe She Red Stars topped Group A as London College qualified in second place. Kakungulu Memorial and and Wakiso Hill qualified in first and second position respectively from Group B.
On Sunday, London College didn’t show up for their semifinal encounter with Kakungulu Memorial whereas Buikwe had to go to the penalties to see off the challenge mounted by a young but spirited Wakiso Hill side on 5-4.
According to Hamid Kasozi the co’ordinator of the league a group of players was identified and these are going to represent Buganda region in the Inter region championship to be held in Lira later this month.
Individual winners included; Kakungulu’s Naome Nagadya who topped the Scorer’s charts with 4goals, Buikwe’s Agness Nakayima was voted MVP and London College’s Gloria Nakyanzi best goal keeper. They each received a new ball.

Chief guest, FUFA Executive Committee member Ms Mariam Kaliga was all praise for the talent exhibited by the young ladies as she hinted of a national women soccer league that FUFA is planning to start next year.
