Old rivals Kenya and Uganda will square off in an international friendly in women football on 3rd July, 2016 in Kisumu.
The news comes as a timely development to women football in Uganda following the successful start of the FUFA Women Elite League in 2015.
FUFA will release the full details of the friendly match at a press conference when the FUFA Women Elite League plays offs are completed at which the National team-Crested Cranes squad will be named by Head coach Majidah Nantanda.
FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo has been a strong advocate of women football in the country.
‘With some support from FIFA for projects like courses aimed at helping women football development, the game has taken big strides in the country. We are proud of the ground work started by a FIFA team during the FIFA Com-Unity course in December, 2014 that culminated into the top flight league and improvement of women football’ said FUFA President Eng. Magogo.
The Head coach Majidah Nantanda said ;
‘The friendly game will be good for players’ motivation. After a tireless period of hard work in the FUFA Women Elite League, they will feel rewarded for their efforts’
One of the FIFA Instructors on women football during the FIFA Com-Unity seminar 2014 Jackie Shipanga told www.fufa.co.ug that;
‘Coaches need to have fit players when such matches come around. Fitness of players is a key component of the game nowadays. Do not under estimate Kenya. They are indeed preparing for AFCON Women to be hosted by Cameroon. As hosts of 2016 CECAFA Women, Uganda needs to get the team ready not just as hosts but also compete on the pitch’
