Women Football: Uganda Crested Cranes improve in latest FIFA Rankings

The Uganda National women football team, the Crested Cranes moved up the latest FIFA Rankings by 5 places from 129th to 124th with a total of 836 points.

Uganda Crested Cranes finished fourth at the 2016 CECAFA Women football championship held at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

There are 177 women footballing nations in the world although only 127 countries have a ranking basing on recent activities for the past 18 months.

CECAFA Region:

Ethiopia is the best ranked country in the CECAFA region at 102nd. Tanzania (116th), Rwanda (120th) and Kenya (122nd) and Uganda at 124th complete the only ranked countries in the region.

USA remains the number on women footballing nation in the whole world as Olympic champions Germany remains in second place.

Newly crowned African women champions, Nigeria is 35th and the best in Africa ahead of Ghana (45th), Cameroon (47th), Equatorial Guinea (50th) and South Africa (51st).

During 2016 alone, the Uganda Crested Cranes and women football in general remained a top priority for the FUFA Administration under President, Eng. Moses Magogo.

The FUFA Women Elite league marked the 3rd season since inception, the knock out FA cup for the women wing was introduced, as well as a series of tournaments were played like the Mama Becca Women Cup, Independence Day women tournament and the Seninde Women Development Cup.

The national team alone traveled to Kisumu for the international friendly match Kenya before playing six games at the CECAFA 2016 Women tournament (finished 4th out of 8 countries).
