First round recap:
She-Corporate XI on top
The She Corporate XI boasting of national team players were unplayable as they won all their games in the first round. With National team stars like Christine Wanyana (Crested Cranes captain), Matovu Fatumah, Naume Nagadya, Dorothy Nakato, Nakitto Gladys and Winnie Babirye, the Corporate XI was a class apart as one of their players Babirye went on to hit a hat-trick in her team’s 8-1 defeat of defending champions Muteesa I Royal University. Babirye leads the top scorers’ chart with 10 goals to her name.
Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals are second on the table but have youthful squad of players that have just completed high school and were offered scholarships at the university to further their education careers. Kivumbi Ritah-Crested Crane and a host of Under 20 stars Tracy Akiror and Viola Nambi plus Stella Nassuna Kaliba have kept their team in touching distance of the top placed team.
The 2013 champions, Muteesa I Royal University had an eventful first round. In one of the gams they were shocked by Entebbe Ladies 1-0 as the result dented their hopes of retaining the title.
Newcomers Bulenga Queens and Gafford Ladies are also taking part in the league.

FUFA women’s football officer speaks out –Hadijah Namuyanja
Overall, this competition has given a significant boost to women’s football as most teams are showing improvement in a combination of technical brilliance, tactical discipline, attacking power, defensive solidarity and speed of play.
