WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Teams gearing up for action in Wakiso

Women’s Day Football Tournament

Venue: st John’s Secondary School, Wakiso

Dates: 7th-9th March, 2014

The International Women’s day celebrations in Uganda will have the Federation of Uganda football Associations (FUFA) give one of its member Associations full support towards their activities lined up this weekend in Wakiso District. The Uganda women Football Association is one of the 31 member Associations of FUFA and have finalized plans to organize the three day women’s football tournament at St John’s Secondary School.

Speaking to sports scribes this morning during the FUFA press Conference in Mengo, Mariam Kaliga urged all teams to exhibit during the tournament.

‘Our main objective is to set up a national league and in this way we shall achieve as stakeholders but above all we ask teams to show discipline on and off the pitch during their stay in Wakiso’ said Kaliga who is also a FUFA Executive committee Member.

The organisers are yet to confirm the number of teams expected to turn up. Primary schools, Secondary Schools, Universities and Clubs will all compete for top honors.  Teams will start arriving on Friday with the action proper kicking off on Saturday. 

The national league will be running between 4th October and December 2014.
