The 2014 FUFA – Airtel Rising Stars regional Under 17 football qualifiers resumed over the weekend with the Eastern and Northern regions qualifiers.
Gulu secondary school clinched the overall boys trophy in the Northern Uganda qualifiers held at Lira College play grounds while St James from Lira took the girls title.
In the Eastern region affair, CRO boys and St Steven girls’ teams were victorious at the King George Stadium in Tororo.
The Airtel Rising stars U-17 football in Uganda is marking the 4th edition and is played across the 8 FUFA regions for the preliminary qualifiers.
Each region is then expected to select a strong squad which competes at the national finals
The national finals will be held in Fort Portal at the end of June 2014 (26th-30th). A select national team will then represent Uganda at a training clinic with Arsenal football club coaches and players in Gabon later in October.
Next weekend the qualifiers will shift to Western and central regions at Kabale and Kampala districts respectively.
Special scouts like Hadijah Namuyanja, Christine Wanyana, Philip Obwinyi, Hakim Magumba, Harunah Kebba, Frank Video Anyau and FUFA technical director, Asuman Lubowa have been employed specifically to choose excelling players from this tournament.
